Lab Reports

Tips on writing a good lab report

A lab report is a combination of both research and persuasion. After conducting a research or an experiment the students are required to prove their hypotheses using data. Typically, a lab report has seven sections; the title, introduction, abstract, materials and methods, results, discussion and literature cited. In a lab report the title reflects the factual content of the paper while the abstract gives the reader an idea of what is contained in the paper. After writing the abstract and the title, the student should then write down an introduction defining the subject of the lab report. When writing an introduction in a lab report, the student should seek to explain why the study was performed, the knowledge that exists on the subject and the specific purpose of carrying the study.

In the results section, the student should summarize the data from the experiment using tables, figures and graphs. The lab report is not complete without a discussion and a literature cited sections. In the discussion section, the student should interpret the data and furnish the reader with existing knowledge and theories on the subject. It is also important to note that when writing a lab report always italicize scientific names, avoid using the first person, avoid using contractions and be consistent in the use of tense.

Writing a good lab report is challenging

As earlier indicated, when writing a lab report, a student is supposed to use persuasive language, factual contents and show mastery in communicating.

One of the hardest sections when writing a lab report is the discussion section where the student is supposed to interpret the results and explain the logic that allows the reader to reject or accept his or her hypothesis. This is a very challenging task as it requires the reader to have a deeper understanding of the subject. In addition, the writer is required to have extensive knowledge on preexisting studies and make suggestions for improvements. This is why if you need a good lab report then it is always good to engage the services of a professional who will walk with you during the entire process.

Nursing School

Finding the right kind of nursing school for you is an important step in creating a career in the medical profession that could prove to be beneficial for both you and the people who will come under your care.  There are many schools that a student interested in the nursing profession can go to and that is why selecting the right one should be taken seriously and the final choice should not be based merely on what may be the closest to one’s current location or which one has the easiest courses.  Nursing is a vocation that each individual who chooses to undertake it must acknowledge the time and sacrifice that they need to put in so as to achieve what they are seeking.

The first thing that you need to decide is whether you want to take up a general nursing course or pursue a specialization in nursing.  This will help you whittle down the number of schools you may be currently looking at since some schools are known for the particular nursing specialization you are interested while the other schools are known for other nursing specializations or general nursing courses.  The more information you gather about the school and the courses the offer, the better informed your choice will be.

Once you have your final list of potential schools ready, do not hesitate to visit each nursing school.  Look and see what the school is like and, if possible, sit in on a few classes so you can gauge whether the teachers are handling their classes well and if the students seem genuinely interested in what they are supposed to be learning.  Ask around and see what the students who are already enrolled in the nursing courses have to say and whether they would recommend the school or not and for what reasons.

Another important thing you need to find out is whether the schools you are currently considering area accredited by the National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission or NLNAC or not.  This ensures that whatever school you are thinking of going to is qualified and considered as having the sufficient subjects and courses needed for all nursing students.  Higher degree levels, such as the master’s degree and the doctoral degree, have their own accreditation boards that manage them.  So, it is highly advisable that the school you end up choosing is fully accredited by the NLNAC.

Make sure that the nursing school you choose to go to has an excellent track record in terms of licensure and accreditation examinations.  The percentage of nursing students who take and pass their exams is a good indicator of how well the school’s curriculum is set up and whether the school is really capable of preparing their students for their post-graduation lives.  The higher the percentage rate of nursing students who pass these important examinations, the better the chances that the quality of education and training that the school offers is above par compared to the other schools out there.

Nursing Schools

There are quite a number of nursing schools all over the world that offer the kind of education and training necessary for nursing students to be prepared for a career in nursing.  In many countries, the number of specialized schools for nursing or schools that offer a nursing course have increased over the past few years due to the high demand for nurses in a variety of locations all over the globe.  Unfortunately, the increase in the number of schools does not immediately equate to a high quality program from each one of the schools.  This is why it is important to do the necessary research and legwork when it comes to choosing the best school to go.

A student interested in nursing has a variety of nursing degrees that they can choose to pursue upon enrolling.  There is the Diploma in Nursing or they can go for an associate’s degree can be finished within two years and the available degrees are an Associate in Health and Medicine and an Associate in Nursing.  The subjects that they can major in include Health Care Administration, Health Care Management, Health Informatics, Health Science, Medical Assisting, Medical Coding, Physical and Health, and Psychology.  Though an Associate of Science in Nursing or ASN is perfectly acceptable, it serves more as a precursor for students who may want to begin working in the nursing profession but for career advancement purposes, a bachelor’s degree would be preferable.

Many nursing schools offer either a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Medicine or a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.  A bachelor’s degree can be finished within four years and the major subjects are similar to the ones offered for an associate’s degree but also include a few more.  These other major subjects include Gerontology, Health and Medical Sciences, Human Services, Nursing, and Public Health.  A Bachelor of Science in Nursing or BSN can also be pursued by a Registered Nurse or RN who wishes to continue their education.

For those who want a more advanced degree, they can choose to pursue a Master’s Degree in either Health and Medicine or Nursing.  A master’s degree can be finished within two years with the prerequisite four years done after graduating with a bachelor’s degree.  The major subjects that can be taken up include Gerontology, Health Care Administration, Health Care Management, Health Informatics, Human Services, Nursing, Psychology, and Public Health.  One can also go on to pursue their doctorate after receiving their Master of Science in Nursing or MSN, becoming either a Doctor of Nursing Practice or DNP or a Doctor of Philosophy or PhD.

Aside from traditional brick and mortar nursing schools, there are also online educational institutions that offer nursing degrees.  It is important to remember, however, that regardless of whether a nursing student chooses to study online or not, they ensure that the school they choose is properly accredited and can prepare them for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN) or practical nurses (NCLEX-PN) after graduation.
