Creating a List
Start out by making a list of all of the things that you want the
handyman to take care of. As you create the list you may find that there
is a lot more to do than you first realized. It might be that you find
out there are only a few things that need to be handled.
Either way it helps to have a clear idea of what you need done. Consider
going through the house room by room and figuring out what needs to be
done in each one. If you want to be more specific you can make two
columns per room. One side can list all of the things that you need done
and the other can list things that you want done.
Prioritizing the List
Now that you have a list you want to figure out which items are most
important. This way you can hire the handyman to get the necessities out
of the way. If you have money left over you can look to get some of the
other tasks taken care of. If you don’t you can keep the list and just
work through it as time and finances permit.
If you have a need list in each of the rooms, try to figure out which
room needs to be worked on first. Set it up so that all of the
necessities will be taken care of there before moving on to another
space in the house. This will make the process easier for you as well as
your helper.
Making the Area Accessible and Convenient
Because you don’t want to waste any time when it comes to having
assistance around your home make sure that the area is clear for him to
work. If he is stuck moving items out of the way or cleaning up the area
it is taking away from valuable time that could be used on the actual
job. Take the time to clean up and move anything that is in the way;
this includes furniture. You want him to be able to easily get in and
out of the area to work.
If you are not going to be home while some of the work is being done, be
sure that your handyman can get in and out of the house as needed. You
can leave a key with him or keep it in a place around the house that he
can get to. The easier that you make it to get into the work space the
more he will be able to get done in a day.
